Charles Overton
Minister of Music and Worship Arts
Charlie Overton is a native of Brownsville, TN. He completed his undergraduate study at Lambuth University in Jackson, earning a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Business. Charlie then attended Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University where he earned the Master of Sacred Music degree with an emphasis in choral conducting.
Charlie joined the staff of FUMC as Minister of Music and Worship Arts in 2004. In June 2007, he was ordained as Deacon in Full Connection. Prior to his present appointment, Charlie served Browns UMC in Jackson, TN, Suncreek UMC in Allen, TX, and Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church in Dallas, TX.
Charlie is married to Melanie Bennett Overton, who serves as the Dean of Students for Lambuth University. Melanie is also a candidate for the Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy through Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.
Charlie and Melanie are happy to once again call Jackson home, and they celebrate the work of God being done through the people and ministries of First United Methodist Church.
