Become a Member

How Does A Person Join First United Methodist Church?

One becomes a member either by profession of faith in Jesus Christ or by transfer of membership from another congregation.

Baptism is “an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace.”

Baptism is a rite of initiation into the Christian church. We believe baptism is a means of claiming God’s grace for one’s life. We recognize baptisms done at any age and by any Christian church. We accept sprinkling, pouring or immersion as appropriate methods of baptism. If you have not been baptized, we would be honored to arrange for your baptism.

Profession of faith is the act of saying, in essence, “I want to be a follower of Jesus.”

Sometimes this is called confirmation, being saved or receiving new life or new birth. If you have not made a profession of faith, we would be happy to arrange for this to be done in a setting that is comfortable for you.

We recognize professions of faith made in other Christian churches.

If you are relocating from another United Methodist Church, we simply welcome you and notify your former congregation that you are transferring your membership. If you are relocating from another Christian denomination, we recognize your baptism and profession of faith and ask only one further question: “Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it with your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service?”

Our church staff is happy to talk with you and answer any questions you might have.
