Music & Worship Arts

The Music & Worship Arts ministries at First Methodist • Downtown Jackson exist to enable more perfect worship, both personally and corporately. Participants come with a willing spirit and an eagerness to give their time in service to this congregation and its worship. Be sure to learn about our ensembles and other avenues for ministry. All are welcome and encouraged to participate in Music & Worship Arts. Contact Margaret Harrison at mharrison@jacksonfumc.org about Traditional Worship opportunities.

Sanctuary Choir, music leaders for the 11:00 worship services in the sanctuary, begin rehearsals at their regular time, 7:00 pm, in the choir room located in the lower level of the building.  New anthems, as well as older familiar anthems, are to be rehearsed, along with service music to enhance worship services.  All interested singers (no auditions required) are encouraged to join for these rehearsals which last until 8:30 each Wednesday evening.

Christmas Music preparation is to be the first part of each Wednesday’s rehearsal time.  Singers who wish to participate in Christmas are encouraged to do so.

Prime Ringers, our handbell choir, begins its rehearsal at 6:00 pm Wednesdays.  If you are interested, but have never rung handbells, see Margaret for some beginning instructions on ringing. Handbell choir rehearsal room is located in the lower level across from Sanctuary Choir rehearsal room.

The First Awakening Band, our 9:00 a.m. contemporary worship service music leaders, is also in need of musicians, both singers and instrumentalists. Rehearsals are Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday Mornings before service, at 7:45 a.m. Contact Beau Sage at bsage@jacksonfumc.org for more information about participation with First Awakening. We also are in constant need of volunteers interested in technical support (lyrics projection, sound, lighting).
